Steve Mensch, president and general manager of studio operations at Tyler Perry Studios, died in a plane crash on December 6th, 2024. He was 62 years old.
Steve grew up in Goshen, NY. He was a member of the Boy Scouts, and also won the Pinewood Derby, a wooden car racing event for Cub Scouts. He loved playing tennis and hockey, passions that were cultivated at a young age and flourished throughout his college years and well into adulthood. He loved scuba diving and the ocean. He also had a passion for cars, and enjoyed taking his Mazda RX8 to track days at road Atlanta.
Steve was incredibly influential to Georgia’s film and TV production industry and helped advocate for the tax credits that transformed the state into a thriving film production hub. Throughout his expansive career in the film industry, he’s overseen the opening of multiple studios and helped generate billions of dollars of economic impact.
Outside of his professional achievements, Steve devoted himself to community leadership. He served as a member of the Governor’s Advisory Committee on Film, Music & Digital Entertainment and chaired the Georgia Screen Entertainment Coalition. He was also a dedicated board member for artsNOW, Inc., the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival and a proud alumnus of Leadership Atlanta, Class of 2020. He provided mentorship, guidance and wisdom to many in various areas. His influence was felt throughout the greater Atlanta community, and he strove to uplift those around him.
Steve is survived by his wife, Danila, and their three children, Charles, Adelayna, and Josephine.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to the Steve Mensch Family Fund at the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta.
